Rekom Biotech is a biotechnology company focused on the design and production of validated antigens for human and animal infectious diseases, as well as for allergies. We offer to the in vitro diagnostic industry high quality and versatile recombinant raw material, suitable for use in the various platforms available on the market, among others: second and third generation ELISAs, immunochromatography, chemiluminescence, Western blot, dot-blot, etc.
Our products are recombinant antigens produced in different expression systems. Our main aim is the optimisation of the antigenicity and the reduction of potential specificity problems. In order to reach this goal, we validate the antigen immunoreactivity towards specimen sera.
Rekom Biotech also offers R&D support services for IVD manufacturers that want to develop a new assay and cannot find the right raw material. Within this service, we develop gene amplification and expression services, optimisation-expression studies, culture scale-up in bioreactors by using a fed-batch mode, process development strategies, downstream processing and immunologic studies by using Western Blot and ELISA assays.
MISSION
In Rekom Biotech our mission is to offer high quality recombinant protein to be used for IVD diagnostic of human and animal infectious diseases and allergies.
Our working philosophy gives priority to the establishment of alliances and collaborations which will allow us to set up new prototypes and develop new products.
VISION
Rekom Biotech wants to become a reference supplier of antigens for human and animal infectious diseases and allergies in the IVD industry.
We like to work closely with IVD manufacturers to understand their problems and provide them with products totally adapted to their needs. In Rekom Biotech, we support our customers through the development process to overcome the challenges of applying the antigens to a specific platform.
We want to mantain our competitiveness through constant innovation in our products. In order to achieve this goal, we encourage continued training and creativity in our team. We give capital importance to participation and collaboration in scientific projects.
100% multidisciplinary team
Our team is formed by professional people who come from different knowledge areas: Molecular Biologist PhDs, Chemical Engineer PhDs, Computer Science PhD, chemists, senior laboratory technicians and our sales team. We are deeply involved in the development and the progress of the company and therefore we are in on-going formation.
ANA CAMACHO | CEO and founder Doctor in Molecular Biology
She has an experience of more than 29 years in design and development of processes regarding the obtaining of recombinant proteins related to infectious diseases. She completed her PhD in the Institute of Parasitology and Biomedicine “López-Neyra” (Granada) and subsequently she worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Spanish National Biotechnology Centre (Madrid).
After this period, she set up the Molecular Biology department of the biotechnology company Vircell, S,L, working there for eight years heading the Molecular Biology-1 department, focused on the design and development of recombinant antigens related to infectious diseases.
In 2010 she established the biotechnology company Rekom Biotech in collaboration with the doctors Fernando Camacho Rubio and José Camacho Páez.
FERNANDO CAMACHO | Cofounder Full Professor in Chemical Enginieering, UGR
He has participated in 214 publications, he has supervised 39 Doctoral Thesis and he has worked in several Spanish Universities: Complutense University (Madrid), La Laguna University (Tenerife) and Granada University. He specialises in bio-process kinetics and bioreactor operations, not only with in vitro enzymes but also with aerobic and photosynthetic microorganisms.
From 1978 to 2001 he was the director of the research group of “Bioreactors” for the Andalusian Government. His experiences has allowed him the optimization of the conditions for working with commercial bioreactors in order to obtain microorganisms for a specific aim. It is notorious his experience in advising companies belonging to the chemistry and biotechnology sector. Co-founder of the company Rekom Biotech as collaborator in the University of Granada.
JOSÉ CAMACHO | Cofounder Doctor at the Department of Signal Theory, Telematics and Communications, UGR
He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Technical University of Valencia (2007) and has worked as a post-doctoral fellow in the University of Girona.
His research interest is focused on exploratory data analysis, monitoring, control and optimization with multivariate data analysis techniques applied to data of very different nature, including industrial processes, medicine and networking.
In Rekom Biotech we have a social responsibility with our team. This responsibility is reflected in flexible working hours and the balance between professional and personal life. We promote continued formation of our team and adopt different measures to maintain motivation and our company objectives.
Our concenr for the enviroment has led us to chose an environmentally friendly way of working, also within our team, including the installation of the latest extraction and filtering systems and our protocols for collection of toxic waste.
